Bexhill residents celebrate their learning success - 28 July 2010

The Bexhill round of the Get On courses came to a joyous end on Monday 19 July 2010.

A celebration event was held, recognising the achievements of all those who took part in the community based learning courses. The Get On project is coordinated by our community development team, People for Action.

Jennie, one of the participants, was awarded a certificate for her two courses; personal development and introduction to computers. She said: "The time has gone by really quickly and I've enjoyed getting out and meeting different people."

Courses cover a range of subjects
Since it started in spring 2008, the project has supported over 430 participants. Courses have ranged from car maintenance to healthy cooking on a budget and first aid. 175 participants have progressed onto other community activities, volunteering and further training. And over 30 participants have secured employment.

AmicusHorizon's Programme Manager, Julie Gratton said: "The project has seen people experience a range of emotions. They've come out of their comfort zones and they've learnt things about themselves and about others."

The final round of Get On courses will be held in central St Leonards between October and December 2010. For more information on the Get On project click here.
